✨ Grateful to Tu Rinsche for her candid post on the evolving role of social audits in human rights due diligence. At Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors Inc. (APSCA), we know audits aren’t a silver bullet. But they can provide structure, visibility, and a foundation for deeper engagement—especially when paired with strong partnerships, capacity-building, and local insights. 🙏 We're proud to be working with our members to build greater consistency, integrity, and trust in this complex but vital field. #HumanRights #SocialAudits #HRDD #CSDDD #CSRD #SupplyChain #SocialSustainability #DueDiligence #Compliance #APSCA
Social audits don’t work. At least, not on their own. They provide structure, accountability, and data. They help identify compliance gaps and bring visibility to human rights risks. But they often fail to detect systemic issues like forced labor or the root causes of labor abuses. Worse, they can contribute to audit fatigue, making suppliers less willing to engage. ❌ Social audits don’t fix problems. And no one should believe they do. But they are still a necessary and important tool in Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD)—as long as they are complemented by: ✅ Worker-driven monitoring ✅ Capacity-building for suppliers ✅ Responsible purchasing & recruitment practices ✅ Corporate & supplier training on key human rights risks ✅ Partnerships with local civil society organizations And let’s be honest—this is the real work that should be driving corporate human rights efforts, not just reporting. For now, social audits can be a starting place to take action. If you are at a loss for where to start or who to work with, the Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors Inc. (APSCA) is working towards enhancing the consistency of the audit industry and represents both independent auditors and audit firms that you can explore. 📨 Ross Nova, President and CEO 🔗 APSCA - https://www.theapsca.org/ ❓What’s been your experience with social audits?
